Pittsburgh Veg Fest 2016

This past weekend was the second annual Veg Fest in Pittsburgh. I missed it last year and this year I knew that I needed to get myself there. So I did!

We planned to go in the morning. The forecast was looking pretty soggy all day but I had high hopes for that to be false. It wasn’t.

We got there shortly after it started. It was pouring. So hard. Luckily, I thought to grab an umbrella right before we left. I never use an umbrella. Like ever. But I keep one in my car just because I don’t know where else to store an umbrella. So, I grabbed it and took it with us. Upon stepping out into the street and popping it open I realized that I was going to get pretty wet. The umbrella was way too small for Darrin and I to share. Whoops! We managed to share the best we could as we met up with some friends and walked around.

There were so many cool tents set up. Definitely something for everyone to look at! I visited a lot of the tents twice because I wanted to get a sense of what all was there before I bought anything. Big decisions! A couple of places had cats, dogs, and other furry friends that you could stop by and say hi to. Those little moments were definitely the sunshine throughout the rain storms!

I was so drawn to this tent of creations from Rustbelt Workshop. Plants are my thing. Even though I didn’t buy anything, I loved looking at the creativity and intricacy of the various designs. They were all so cool!

We walked around a bit more and I collected some stickers, pins, and bought a new tank top that I’m sure you’ll be seeing in my posts A TON in the near future. I was most excited about finding a new vegan shirt to wear and I accomplished that mission. So yay!

Before we got ready to leave I wanted to get some food. I specifically went to the festival hungry so that I could try all kinds of different foods. It definitely rained on that parade though! The lines were kind of long and Darrin was pretty much over being soaking wet and standing in the rain. Plus, it’s kind of difficult to eat food under a small umbrella in the pouring rain. After a huge decision, I went with trying out Picadilly Yogurt. It’s somewhere that I’ve been wanting to try since they opened up last year but never got there yet. Yay for new things!

The nitro pop was sweet and salty popcorn served in liquid nitrogen which made it so fun to eat! As you ate it you had steam/smoke/whatever you would call it coming out of your mouth. And the taste, the taste made it even better. Perfect amounts of sweetness and saltiness. How else can you really describe popcorn? I’m not sure, but I’m a huge fan of it. I wish they had bags of the popcorn that I could take home. I’d be so into that.

The blueberry yogurt was good too! I just added sprinkles to it. It was so rich and creamy. Definitely not like your typical froyo, but in a good way. It’s much smoother and decadent. In a way it reminded me of soft serve ice cream. Loved it, too!

After that we headed back to the car and I dried my soaking wet socks in the vents while we drove to Eden for brunch. I was so surprised how great of a turn out there was despite the rain. It was great to see!

After we grabbed brunch and tea and a cute little cafe we decided to head to the mall. By the time we got there the rain slowed way down and the sun was starting to peek through the clouds. Dang! I’m glad that it got nice for the afternoon attendees of the fest but also wished it would have been like that for us. It’s all good though! We had a great time and I am so very excited to do it all over again next year!
